Project Overview
This project involved the provision of scaffolding to support external repair and roofing works at Burgess Hill Council Offices. A tailored access and scaffold solution was installed to facilitate safe working conditions for the roofing teams while ensuring minimal disruption to the day-to-day operations of the council offices. The works enabled efficient delivery of the repair programme, providing secure access to all required elevations and full compliance with health and safety standards including the provision of pavement licence.
Project Scope & Objectives
- Ensure compliance with local authority requirements by obtaining the pavement permit prior to scaffold erection.
- Provide safe access and working platforms for trades to carry out maintenance/repair works on the council office.
- Minimise disruption to the public by maintaining a clear access around the scaffold.
- Implement protective measures debris netting & protection fans to safeguard members of the public from falling objects.
- Erect scaffolding to industry standards (TG20:21 compliance where applicable) to guarantee structural safety and stability.
- Regularly inspect and maintain the scaffold every 7 days throughout the project to ensure ongoing safety and permit compliance.
- Plan for safe dismantling once works are completed, ensuring minimal disruption to the public and surrounding area.
Execution & Delivery
The execution and delivery of the scaffolding works were carried out in full compliance with the pavement permit conditions and industry best practices. The scaffold was erected by qualified operatives to TG20:21 standards, ensuring stability and safety throughout the project. Protective measures, including debris netting, signage, and protection fans were implemented to safeguard the public and maintain clear pedestrian access along the high street. Coordination with the council and highways department minimised disruption to traffic and local businesses, while regular inspections and maintenance ensured ongoing compliance. On completion, the scaffold was dismantled safely and efficiently, and all areas were reinstated to their original condition.
Outcome
The scaffolding provided safe and stable access for the refurbishment team, facilitating a smooth and secure working environment. The project has been completed successfully, with the hire period estimated at weeks.
