Large Temporary Roof Installation

Client:
Watson Brothers

Location:
Reigate, Surrey

Project Type:
Large-Scale Temporary Roof with Shrink Wrap

Status:
Completion 2025

Project Overview

Amphibian Scaffolding was appointed by Watson Brothers to deliver a large temporary roof structure in Reigate to protect a major refurbishment site from adverse weather conditions. The structure, installed over a complex roofline, required precise planning, heavy lifting, and complete weatherproofing. The temporary roof was fully shrink-wrapped and constructed using crane-assisted beam lifts, enabling a fast, safe installation with minimal disruption to the active construction site.

A timelapse video was produced to document the entire process, showcasing the professionalism, planning, and technical execution involved.

Project Scope & Objectives

Scope:

  • Design and installation of a large temporary roof system
  • Full encapsulation using flame-retardant shrink wrap
  • Crane-assisted lifting of prefabricated beams over the structure
  • Safe installation with minimal disruption to ongoing site works
  • Collaboration with other contractors to meet the build programme

Objectives:

  • Provide a secure, weatherproof enclosure to protect refurbishment works
  • Deliver a complex roof structure efficiently and safely using crane operations
  • Maintain full compliance with site safety, lifting protocols, and scaffolding standards
  • Demonstrate Amphibian Scaffolding’s capability in large-scale temporary roof solutions

Execution & Delivery

The temporary roof was constructed using tube and fitting pre built beam and truss system, designed off-site to minimize build time on-site. Given the size and weight of the structure, a crane was used to lift and position the prefabricated beams over the existing building safely and efficiently.

Key elements of delivery included:

  • Pre-installation risk assessments, method statements, and crane lift planning
  • Coordination with the principal contractor and crane operator for beam placements
  • Installation of supporting scaffolds and lifting frames with edge protection
  • Application of shrink wrap to fully seal the roof structure from the elements
  • Continuous on-site safety monitoring and compliance with TG20:21 standards

Despite the scale and complexity, the entire structure was installed ahead of schedule, without incident.

Outcome

The temporary roof structure provided full weather protection, allowing internal works to proceed without delay. The shrink wrap maintained its integrity throughout various weather conditions, and the crane-assisted installation method significantly reduced time on site and risk during assembly.

Watson Brothers praised Amphibian Scaffolding for our proactive planning, efficient execution, and professional conduct throughout the project. The successful completion of this high-profile scaffold roof further cements our reputation for delivering complex access and protection systems across the South East.
